Boston Bombing Survivor Jeff Bauman’s Book Is Coming Out Soon
A literary agent Tweeted a sneak peek of the memoir prior to the President's State of the Union address.
Boston Marathon bombing survivor Jeff Bauman had a lot to be excited about Tuesday night.
“I wore pants for the first time in [nine] months!,” Tweeted Bauman, from Washington , D.C., just hours after officially signing up for Twitter. “And I also met the president.”
These two tidbits of good news—three if you add in joining the social media site— were just part of a positive experience the New Hampshire native, who lost both legs in the April attack, got to celebrate Tuesday night during President Obama’s State of the Union Address.
Before Obama took the stage to talk about initiatives he plans to implement during his final term in office, Anthony Mattero, a literary agent from New York, shared a sneak peek of both the cover and a synopsis of a memoir, called “Stronger,” that Bauman has been working on since September.
Bauman and Carlos Arredondo, the man in the cowboy hat made famous after he helped get Bauman medical attention following the blasts, were both guests of Michelle Obama’s during the address.
“So proud of Jeff Bauman. Watch for him sitting with [Michelle Obama] tonight at the [State of the Union]. You can pre-order his book here,” Mattero Tweeted, teasing the memoir with perfect timing.
The link Mattero included led to an Amazon page where there’s a description of the new book, which reads:
Just thirty hours prior, Jeff was surrounded by revelry at the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon. The first bomb went off at his feet as he awaited his girlfriend’s finish. When Jeff awoke days later from hours of surgery, rather than take stock of his now completely altered life, Jeff ripped out his breathing tube and tried to speak. He couldn’t. Jeff asked for a pad and paper and he wrote down seven words, “Saw the guy. Looked right at me,” setting off one of the biggest manhunts in the country’s history and beginning his own brave road to recovery.
The memoir, which is set for release on April 8, days before the one-year anniversary of the marathon attack, will also detail Bauman’s efforts to walk again using his new prosthetic legs. The book description says Bauman “will show the terrorists that they accomplished nothing with their act of cowardice and prove to the entire world what Boston Strong really means.”
Bauman was credited with helping further the investigation into the marathon bombing after identifying the suspects.
