Try Hubway for Free All Day on Saturday
Now is your chance to finally give it a whirl.
What better way to enjoy this hot and humid start to what’s supposed to be pumpkin spice latte season than with a breezy bike ride through Boston? Don’t have a bicycle, you say? Not to worry! Hubway has you covered this weekend, for free.
As the privately supported bike-sharing program continues its spread around Greater Boston, it’s offering a new promotion that lets users try out the service for free for 24 hours.
It’s also partnering with the trendy ingredients-in-a-box company Blue Apron, which is offering Hubway riders a $30 credit.
Sign up for the free 24-hour trial by registering here.
Register online to get a promotional code to use at any Hubway station (you will also be asked to swipe a “payment card,” according to the promotion’s instruction). Free rides are limited to 30 minutes apiece. Registering also means adding your email to Hubway’s mailing list, but you can choose to opt out.
Although Hubway in the past has tried to stoke ridership with discounted fares, this is the first time Hubway has let users try out its bikes for free.
Hubway, Boston’s first experiment with shareable bikes, has proven popular with commuters and seen steady growth since its launch in 2011. Most recently, it’s begun expanding its footprint into Dorchester, Roxbury, and East Boston. The service from the start has benefited from an influx of private cash, most obviously from the Brighton-headquartered athletics company New Balance, but also from other entities eager to get involved. Colleges, landlords, and investment firms have sponsored stations.
Want to learn more? Hubway will have representatives at a bike party Friday night, from 7-10 p.m., at Copley Square.
