Boston Symphony Orchestra's 132nd Opening Night Gala
A fundraising record was set during the Boston Symphony Orchestra's season opener on Saturday, September 22, 2012. $2 million was raised as part of the gala festivities, the most raised for this event in the orchestra's 132-year history. The enormously successful evening was headed by Gala Chairs Roberta and Stephen R. Weiner. Chairman of the BSO's Board of Trustees, Ted Kelly and his wife Debbie, and Underwriting Benefactors Eileen and Jack Connors also played a major role in the evening's success. Legendary violinist Itzhak Perlman led the BSO in an all-Beethoven program in the dual roles of conductor and soloist to an overwhelming standing ovation. The occasion marked Mr. Perlman's first appearance at Symphony Hall as a guest conductor for the BSO. The all-Beethoven concert kicked off a season running from September 22 until May 4.
