The Norman B. Leventhal Map Center Explorer Award Dinner
Mayor Thomas Menino was presented with the Norman B. Leventhal Explorer Medal at the Boston Public Library’s Leventhal Map Center Explorer Award Dinner, on Friday, February 1st, at the BPL in Copley Square. The Map Center was created in 2004 with the goal of allowing broad public access to the library’s extraordinary collection of 200,000 maps and 5,000 atlases dating from the 15th century to the present. With more than 300 elegant attendees at the black-tie reception, $1 million was raised for education needs at the map center.
