Kristin Paton Home brings Notting Hill to Cambridge.

When Kristin Paton, an interior designer, moved from London to Boston seven years ago, she quickly discovered a dearth of European-style home accessories in her new city. So last April, she took matters into her own hands, opening her own “design lab” with Peter Griglik, also a designer. Situated just outside of Harvard Square, Kristin Paton Home stocks an eclectic mix of antiques, reproduction furniture, lighting, and textiles. “It’s historical, intellectual, and a little bit unusual,” says Griglik. “We carry pieces that really become part of a lifestyle, rather than just sit there for show.”

1. Editor’s Pick: This regal print ($6,250) depicts Nicolas Fouquet’s magnificent 17th-century estate, Vaux le Vicomte. The residence made Louis XIV so jealous that he had Fouquet arrested and jailed for life.

2. Most Useful: Ralph Lauren’s vintage-y “Carthage” lamps ($680) are finished in natural brass with a minimally styled base.

3. Great Gift: San Francisco designer Rex Ray uses handmade papers to create these lacquered boxes (starting at $175).

4. Luxe Buy: This circa-1860 French Louis Phillipe–style chest ($4,920) “adds richness and depth with its restrained lines, walnut-wood grain, and light ornamentation,” Griglik says.

5. Best Investment: These whimsical stag-leg tables (starting at $800) feature carved tops with an acanthus-leaf border.

6. Owner’s Fave: “I love finding and using pieces like these,” says Griglik of these Murano glass vessels ($35–$145). They “transform the look and feel of the room as the mood hits.”

7. Talking Point: A handpainted wine-harvest barrel ($860) is a “great alternative for typical wall art, adding texture and dimension to a space,” Griglik says.
