This incredible mansion inspired by John Hancock’s Beacon Hill estate has been transformed into two residences, both of which just hit the market. Unit 1 utilizes the main floor and entryway of the original home, while Unit 2 has a separate entrance on a side street. This division was a conscious decision on the part of the developer, Wonder Group, due to the beautiful staircase at the entrance of the home.

While both residences share the same building, each unit is unique, with the first retaining the classic atmosphere of the original home, and the second offering a much more contemporary design. “Although they sit on the same lot in this exquisite building, it’s totally different experiences” says Cervone Deegan & Associates listing agent Janet Deegan.

Unit 1 is slightly larger, with a more lateral layout, exemplifying the style and feel of the original home. This unit retains many traditional details, as it takes over the main entertaining floor of the building, and the second floor of the home. There is also a full lower level, complete with media room, wet bar, full bath, and good lighting and window exposure creating an open space.

The second apartment has a more vertical floor plan, which can be accessed by either an elevator or the oak, custom-built staircase. The modern space has a first-floor media room with wet bar and full bath, a second-level office, a main entertaining floor with 18-foot ceilings and an open living room, topped with a loft level. The main floor also hosts the master bedroom with custom cabinetry and a marble bath, and opens to a tree-top deck.

With one classic and one contemporary unit, this home has a great deal of variety. “They feel like totally different spaces and no doubt will have different buyers,” says Deegan. In an incredible location, sitting pondside on one of the primary streets in Jamaica Plain, each unit also has its own yard and two parking spaces, making this an incredible find.

The renderings in the gallery represent the finished product, which is on track to be completed this August. The developers, Wonder Group, are working on the units, especially the contemporary aspects like an accent wall on the floating staircase in Unit 2.
