The Problem

A couple wanted to transform the aging barn on their new Franklin County property into a comfortable living space, but restrictive building codes got in the way.

The Solution

Though the old barn had to go, architect Catherine Truman was determined to find a replica true to its design. After much searching, she came across the perfect frame in western Ontario to restore and install on the property. The new barn showcases several windows that bathe the open-concept space in light and accentuate the exposed structural supports. Concrete floors and a contemporary staircase add modern flair to the otherwise rustic, casual hangout. “I really love the versatility,” Truman says. “It can do everything from host movie nights to huge dinner parties to giant sleepovers.”
