From the street, this impressive Queen Anne Victorian looks like many of the other antique homes that make up Fall River’s historic Highlands District. But the house for sale at 306 French Street comes with a sinister twist—it’s the home Lizzie Borden lived in following the murder of her parents.

Borden and her sister Emma moved into the palatial home in 1893, after Borden was acquitted of brutally murdering her father and stepmother with an ax. The duo inherited a large fortune upon the death of their father—worth about $7 million dollars today—which allowed them to purchase the manse. According to the Herald News, Borden named the house “Maplecroft,” and had the moniker carved into its front step around 1909. Borden lived a quiet life in the house until her death in 1927.

Today, Maplecroft is poised to operate as a bed and breakfast. Its current owner carefully restored the interior to its 1893 splendor, but her plans to open the home as bed and breakfast fell through. The home is now being sold fully furnished; each room is outfitted with furniture and decor of the period. The place also boasts eight bedrooms, six fireplaces, walnut wainscoting, and inlaid parquet flooring. It’s listed for $849,900 by Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty. History buffs beware, they’re asking for serious inquiries only.
