As temperatures drop (we swear, they will!), you’re going to start craving hot meals, cold drinks, good company, and lots of Oktoberfest-friendly pretzels and wursts. Luckily, these local events can provide just that. –by Christina Jedra

Now through October 30: Oktoberfest at Olde Magoun’s
Every Wednesday night through October, Magoun’s offers an authentic lineup of German biers from the likes of Spatan and Weihenstephan. In addition, a special menu for the October occasion features appropriate eats like jagerschnitzel and reuben knockwurst. September 18: Women, Whisky, and Wardrobes at The Hawthorne
Fashion and cocktails unite for one night to support Dress for Success Boston, which provides professional attire and a support network to disadvantaged women. The event will feature  two Scotch-based cocktails, a tasting of Macallan and  Highland Park single malts, and a sneak peek at Sara Campbell’s fall fashion line. $60 per person at the door, $50 in advance. September 19-20: Festival de la Tomate at T.W. Food
Chef Tim Wiechmann offers an homage to tomatoes in the form of a six-course dinner featuring the peak-of-season fruit blended into a bisque, fried and paired with salad, and, even, folded into dessert. $85 per person, optional $45 wine pairing. September 21-22: Tools of the Trade: Experimental Studies for the Food Industry, at Boston University
This two-day conference explores the food industry with panelists from the restaurant industry, the beverage industry, and the food-centric academic world. Guests can indulge in a seafood and wine reception, lunch from popular local food trucks, and a New England lobster bake. $250 for the general public, $150 for students. September 21-22. September 22: Oktoberfest Biergarten at The Blue Room + Belly Wine Bar
Saying goodbye to summer and hello to fall, this outdoor grilling experience combines the best of both seasons. September 23 & October 7: Porkapalooza at The Salty Pig
At this pork competition, the guests are the judges. Each chef—on the 23rd , Myers + Chang’s Karen Akunowicz, and on the 7th, Trina’s Starlight Lounge’s Suzi Maitland—is given one pig part to turn into a family-style dish that will go up against one from in-house chefs Kevin O’Donnell and Michael Lombardi. October 18-20: Hogtoberfest at American Seasons on Nantucket
American Seasons’ chef-owner Michael LaScola and Farmstead, Inc.’s chef-owner Matt Jennings host this head-to-tail cooking event that features a carving demonstration, a beer tasting, an all-pork dinner, and more. $110 per person. September 22: Late Summer Harvest with Blue Heron Farm Sit back, relax, and learn some new cooking skills from chef Jody Abrams. The multi-course lunch menu features a honey and saffron roasted chicken with root veggies, and guests go home with a packet of recipes. $125 a person. September 27: Boston Seafood Gala
Join an all-star lineup of chefs and enjoy local seafood on Boston’s historic Fish Pier. Musician Eitan Kenner and a band will perform everything from contemporary jazz to Top 40 hits.  $125 a person. September 28: Annual Boston Seafood Festival
This full day of family-friendly events is a way for Bostonians of all ages to learn about the oldest fishing industry in America — and get a taste of it too. Hosted by the Boston Fisheries Foundation, activities include celebrity chef demonstrations, seminars and panels, seafood from over 20 vendors, a lobster bake, and the New England Aquarium Touch Tank. $10 a person. September 29: Austinland Summer Sendoff and Texas Tribute
End the summer with some southern comfort food and a two step dance lesson. Hosted by local chef Joshua Lewin of Beacon Hill Bistro and Texas-raised Katrina Jazayeri, the evening event  will start with a cocktail hour followed by Texas BBQ and Lone Star Beer.
