Shake Shack will open a new Boston-area outpost in 2017, located inside the retail space within the Watermark Seaport, a mixed-use development rising in the Seaport District.

The Watermark Seaport, which will rent out 346 apartments, will take up one acre of the 23-acre Seaport Square, the largest master-planned project in Boston that aims to construct five new streets, more than 20 buildings, and four prominent public gathering spaces.

Shake Shack will be one of several businesses located at the Watermark Seaport, which will reserve more than 20,000 feet for retail space.

Since opening a space in Chestnut Hill in 2013, the New York-based chain seems to be taking to the Boston area quite well. Shake Shack currently operates five local restaurants—in addition to Chestnut Hill, there are locations in Back Bay, Dedham, and Cambridge.

Additionally, the chain has recently been pulling local resources, collaborating with Union Square Donuts on a limited-edition frozen custard and offering a “Surf ‘N’ Shack” burger topped with Maine lobster exclusively in Boston and Connecticut.
