Somerville Bread Company Is the Latest Boston Public Market Vendor

Since debuting its locally-sourced, small-batch breads at farmers’ markets, Somerville Bread Company’s Boston-area presence has been rising. Now, it’s the latest tenant inside the Boston Public Market, Eater Boston reported.
Opening Tuesday, October 18, the organic bakery will serve the same signature loaves, bagels, and artisan products it offers at its shop near Magoun Square, which opened over the winter. Owner Nick Robertson will continue to do his baking at the Somerville storefront, and will shuttle doughy delights to the market twice a day. His booth at the Public Market will keep in line with the bakery’s weekly schedule, which includes regular availability of pullman loaves, sourdough, potato rolls, pizza dough, and more.
The booth will also feature a stone mill to ground flour on-site, something Robertson can’t currently do at the bakery, and he will begin using fresh flour in his breads. Robertson also wants to try his hand at prepared foods, like topped toasts, post-launch, he told Boston.com.
“I’m excited to come back to our roots in this market because this is kind of how Somerville Bread was derived, from a sort of grassroots level,” Robertson told the website. “We are able to really connect the people with our bread in a space like this, so I’m excited to move that to a bigger scale at the market.”
Somerville Bread Company will be situated across from George Howell Coffee. The new vendor adds to a dense baked good landscape in the market, which includes Mamadou’s Artisan Bakery, the allergy-friendly Jennifer Lee’s Artisan Bakery, Swïssbakers, Levend Bagelry, and Union Square Donuts.
With BPM’s recently extended hours, you may not need to shop anywhere else.

UPDATE, Friday, October 14, 10 a.m.: Somerville Bread Co. was originally slated to open at the Boston Public Market on Monday, October 17, but that date has been pushed back a day. This post has been updated to reflect the new opening date.
