Ditch the brown bag lunch for free Chicken & Rice Guys this week.

On Thursday, October 20, from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m., the bright yellow food truck will park at the Greenway carousel and give away its Halal-inspired fare to the first 500 people in line. That means your favorite combo platters filled with rice, chicken or lamb gyro, pita, and whatever sauces you fancy, all on the house. The comped meal is courtesy of Verizon Wireless.

“For CNRG, this is a way of rewarding our fans and testing our rock star crew (hitting 500 plates means serving a plate every 30 seconds for 3 hours straight),” says the Guys’ marketing manager, Steven Collicelli.

If free chicken and rice doesn’t sate your grain cravings, the food truck is also hosting a new concept from the developer of Santouka Ramen. On Friday and Sunday, Tokyo Meat Fried Rice will take over the Chicken & Rice Guys truck to serve its signature pork fried rice dish in Dewey Square and at the Harvard University Science Center, respectively. The company is using the opportunity to test the waters for its first local storefront.

The Tokyo-based brand only plans to have 200 portions available at each pop-up, so like the free lunch giveaway at Chicken & Rice Guys, we recommend arriving early.

11 a.m.-2 p.m., Chicken & Rice Guys, Greenway carousel, cnrguys.com.
