One of itinerate chef Kristen Kish’s myriad projects since leaving Menton in 2014 has been preparing to write her first cookbook. She unveiled the cover of Kristen Kish Cooking: Recipes and Techniques last night, and announced it’s now available for pre-order ahead of a fall 2017 release.

“I love the old cookbooks with titles that are the most simple,” Kish wrote on social media. “Can’t wait for you to dive into the stories, beautiful photos, and so many recipes.”

Kish is working with Montreal-based writer Meredith Erickson and publisher Clarkson Potter. Erickson co-authored the James Beard Award nominated The Art of Living According to Joe Beef, the Le Pigeon: Cooking at the Dirty Bird, and Olympia Provisions: Cured Meats and Tales from an American Charcuterie.

The chef recently shared a sneak peek at one dish featured in Kristen Kish Cooking, this delicate steamed fluke.

When Boston caught up with Kish in the spring, she said not being tied to any particular restaurant gives her a range of inspiration for the cookbook.

“It’s everything from dishes from my childhood and the dishes I grew up on, revisited; to things I cooked on Top Chef, to things that were on my tasting menu at Menton, things that I’ve cooked on my travels, my influences, to how I cook at home,” she said. “The focus is technique-based. It’s about empowering [the reader] to trust their instincts when they’re cooking.”

She’s also not shying away from personal stories. “As a chef, I think it’s important not only to focus on the style of food and what your cooking [style] is, but also understanding where all that comes from,” she said.

Kristen Kish Cooking is now available for pre-order, for all your superfans out there. Contact your local independent bookstore to pre-order a copy, and follow Kish on Instagram for more behind-the-scenes looks before the October 10 release.
