Inside: Local 149

By: A. J. Downey

Southie opened its newest restaurant over the weekend, Local 149, located in the former Farragut House site. Co-owner Jason Owens (Biltmore Bar & Grill) lives a short walk away, but the Nashville native is adding some Southern flavor to the locally sourced menu. Other highlights in the 1,500 square-foot space: a wood-burning fireplace, late-night menu options, and hardwood flooring from a Boston church. Have you been inside yet? If so, tell us about your experience. (And if you haven’t, take a peek at the slideshow below.)

My fiance and I went to Local 149 last Tuesday night… apparantly it was the second night they were open. There was a 45 minute wait, so we sat at the bar to try a few of their beers on tap. The bartender was extremely knowledgeable and recommended a beer that was exactly what we were looking for. 2 seats opened up in the “dining section” of the bar, so we jumped on the offer to sit there. We both ordered the chicken soup, which was light and very flavorful. We then each tried the “taco salad”, which is an interesting twist on the classic. Our waiter was awesome- very friendly and knew the menu inside and out. Overall, it was a great experience- food was interesting and tasty, service was fantastic, and the space itself is definitely hip & unique and was much needed in Southie!
