Mario Batali to Open Babbo Pizzeria This Winter
The 8,700-square-foot space will offer wood-fired pizzas and pasta.
Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich, the same duo behind some of New York’s biggest restaurant concepts (Babbo Ristorante & Enoteca, Bar Jamón, Casa Mono, Del Posto, Otto) are finally making their way to Boston. After a failed attempt to negotiate a lease in the Fort Point area (320 Summer St.) last fall, Batali and his B&B Hospitality Group continued to scout other real estate options. As of this morning, Batali and Bastianich have signed a lease on a space on Boston’s Fan Pier for their latest venture, Babbo Pizzeria.
Unlike Batali’s flagship, Babbo Ristorante, Babbo Pizzeria will feature wood-burning brick oven Italian-style pizza as well as a variety of pasta, antipasti and gelati. Construction will begin within the next few weeks and the B&B Group is projecting the restaurant to open sometime this winter.
As the Globe reported this morning, the restaurant will occupy an 8,700-square-foot space in the ground floor of Eleven Fan Pier Boulevard, adjacent to 22 Liberty, a 111-unit luxury condominium building currently under construction in the city’s waterfront Innovation District.
Babbo Pizzeria will be a Certified Green Restaurant and adhere to sustainable practices such as optimizing energy performance, minimizing waste, and reducing water consumption in the kitchens and restrooms.
