Six Pop-Up Dinners (and Other Notable Culinary Events)

Lend An Ear Corn Dinner with Chef Josh Lewin
Josh Lewin and Katrina Jazayeri of Bread and Salt Hospitality present the second in a three part dinner series at Sloane Merrill Gallery in Beacon Hill. Lend an Ear, a Corn Supper is an homage to all things corn with a procession of amuse bouche courses including a saffron and corn soup with pickled shrimp, tamales, and deviled eggs spiked with a corn based aioli. Entrees include lamb shoulder tacos, a charred corn salad, and corn on the cob with persian lime and sumac butter. Diners will also be treated to a bourbon laced sweet tea lemonade  and wine throughout their meal.

Alden & Harlow’s Whole Garden Dinner
Chef Michael Scelfo at Alden & Harlow is launching a Whole Garden dinner series, in partnership with some of his favorite local farms. On Tuesdays during July and August, Scelfo will prepare four-courses of family-style dishes featuring summer produce from farms such as Volante Farms (7/22), Higher Ground Farm (7/29), The Food Project (8/5), Piccadilly Farms (8/12), and Land’s Sake Farm (8/19). Each dinner can seat 10 guests and wine pairings are available from general manager, Jen Fields. For the first dinner on July 22, Scelfo will be serving dishes such as a cauliflower “steak” with pickled garlic scape relish; raw zucchini with coppa and currants; and rye trofie with wax beans and pork belly crumbs.

Tico’s Latin Street Food Fair
Michael Schlow and executive chef Leo Asaro are launching their annual Summer Patio Series with a celebration of Latin American street food. Taking place on Tico’s Back Bay patio, Schlow will be serving authentic dishes like sausages, empanadas, and both veggie and pork quesadillas. There will be a style-your-own Bloody Maria bar and free tequila shots from Cazadores.

Tryst’s Tower Root Beer Dinner
Tryst is hosting their fourth annual Root Beer Dinner in collaboration with New England’s 100-year-old own root beer company, Tower Root Beer. Chef Paul Turnao is celebrating the Somerville-founded company with a classic three course, $34 prix fixe dinner that includes fare such as pork belly buns with a Tower glaze; root beer-marinated fried chicken with grits and chow chow; and a Somerville cream pie with a sassafras and vanilla filling. Sassafras infused Manhattans will also be available at the bar.

Boston Seafood Festival 
The third annual Boston Seafood Festival, hosted by the Boston Fisheries Foundation, will offer a full days worth of events. Guests can watch chef demonstrations, experience an oyster shucking contest, visit a New England aquarium touch tank, and attend educational seminars focused on sustainability. This year, the Boston Fisheries Foundations is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Boston Fish Pier, the oldest working fish pier in the country, with  plenty of great seafood prepared by Captain Marden’s, No Name, Yankee Lobster, and many others.  Kids under 12 get in for free.

Culinary Tour of the Seaport District with the BCAE
The Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE) is offering students a chance to tour the Seaport’s booming food scene with Amy Traverso, food and wine editor of Yankee Magazine. Traverso will guide guests through a progressive dinner at Seaport restaurants, including Sam’s, Tavern Road, Pastoral, and Row 34. Attendees will sample dishes, delve into the make-up of the menu, and discuss the ins and outs of the restaurant scene, all under the guidance of one of Boston’s most influential food critics.
