Night Shift Brewing Signs Off on Warehouse in Chelsea
The new storage space comes just two months after the Everett brewery received a $3 million loan for expansion.
The crew at Night Shift Brewing have been anything but stagnant this year. They’ve been renovating a second taproom at their Everett headquarters, they installed a new canning line and have the aluminum to show for it, and this spring, they announced a $3 million loan that would help them amp up production twofold over the next few years.
Today, the brewery announced another huge addition: They signed for a 30,000-square foot warehouse in Chelsea, a new space to support everything else they’re doing.
The facility, just a short drive from the Night Shift brewery, will offer storage for raw ingredients, as well as temperature-controlled cold storage for kegs, and some office space. Once the 10-year building lease begins in October, it will also help buoy the brewery’s wholesale distribution.
“All of our beer will be packaged cold, stored cold, and, if it’s not going through the taproom, self-distributed in our refrigerated box trucks,” cofounder Michael Oxton wrote in a press release. “Maintaining a complete cold chain beer life-cycle is paramount in our commitment to quality beer.”
With the Chelsea warehouse active, Night Shift can focus on brewing beer and adding equipment in Everett. Once resources are moved over to Chelsea, the brewery plans to add a 4,000-square foot cold storage space and new barrel room at the brewhouse, positioning them for even more growth in the future.
“We want to focus on doing more sours and barrel-aged stuff, and one-off varieties, but [the added capacity] will be a big boost to the canned flagships,” Oxton previously told Boston.
Night Shift increased production 181 percent in 2015, and expects to double its growth in 2017. In Everett, the taproom addition—which will bring a second bar and a dedicated performance area to the brewery—is slated for an August unveiling.
