Legal Sea Foods to Debut a Seafood Bowl Concept This Spring
Fish and poké bowls are coming to Kendall Square.
As poké pops up in Somerville, and, well, everywhere, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more buzzworthy food right now. Now, a well-known restaurant chain is entering the fray: Legal Sea Foods will debut a new fast-casual concept called Legal Fish Bowl in Cambridge this spring, the Boston Globe reports. The spot will take over part of the Legal Sea Foods space in Kendall Square.
Poké will be just one item on hand when the restaurant debuts. Six signature bowls will be available that float around the chain’s current seafood choices, with the added option for customers to craft their own bowl, according to the Globe. Each bowl will be priced around $10-$15.
The seafood chain has served bowls at its various locations for the past few years, but this quick-service spin-off would position those offerings to be their own brand. Roger Berkowitz, chief executive of Legal Sea Foods, told the Globe that, if reception is strong in the Kendall area, the hope is to open standalone sites in the future.
“I want to make sure this one works and works really well,” he says. “Then, I’ll start to look beyond.”
The Kendall Square restaurant is acting as the test site because lunch service has always been “disproportionately” hectic there, a representative told Boston. Company executives have wanted to launch a fast-casual restaurant for some time now, so it makes sense that the time-strapped techies in Cambridge are the first to get a taste. Construction on the space starts this week, the Globe reported, so no-hassle lunch bowls will be soon to follow.
