What to Eat (and Drink) This Weekend
Sail Boston and Somerville specials, “fancy Chex Mix,” Ramble on Rosé, and more.
To celebrate Somerville’s 175th anniversary, the city’s restaurants are offering a range of specials and deals. That includes $31.75 prix-fixe menus at Brass Union, Casa B, the Tasting Counter wine bar, Manoa Poke Shop, the Neighborhood, and more. Most of the happenings are taking place over the last two weeks of June, between Sunday and Thursday. Check out the lineup on the city’s website.
You’ve undoubtedly decided by now if you’re going to get out of town this weekend while the tall ships sail in, or if you’re going to brave the crowds and take it all in. If you’re checking it out, there are plenty of dining options and specials to be had. To wit: Beloved weekday burger joint Wheelhouse is open Saturday from 9 a.m. “until the party stops.” At Tamo, chef Robert Tobin got an assist from Taranta owner Jose Duarte to create a dish in honor of the Peruvian naval vessel, Union, docking at the Seaport World Trade Center. Sullivan’s Castle Island has a limited menu, but it’s running a shuttle from the JFK MBTA station so you can catch the action with hot dogs in hand. State Street Provisions has a patio along Long Wharf, New England classics on the menu, and nautical drink specials. If you want to find your own spot to have lunch outside, pick up a $30 picnic basket to go from Babbo Pizzeria e Enoteca, filled with antipasti misti, Italian pasta salad, butterscotch budino, and a small throw.
Celebratory Sparkling Tea Mojitos
Happy 1st birthday, Evy Tea! To celebrate, the JP teashop is throwing itself a party, with Bon Me, FoMu Ice Cream, and 88 Acres. Evy Tea will have festive sparkling tea mojitos, matcha floats, and a number of cold brew teas on tap. A raffle benefits Community Servings, and guests will also get the first look at the cold brew company’s mobile tea bar, which will partially run on solar power.
Miso-Roasted Pork Sandwiches and Fancy Chex Mix
Conor Dennehy, formerly chef de cuisine at T.W. Food and currently a buyer at Formaggio, has a side hustle catering company with his wife, Danielle Ayer. Belly to Bones is popping up this Saturday at the Mystic Brewery taproom, elevating the already pretty awesome cuisine available there. The menu includes “some fancy pants bar snacks,” including scallop crudo, a miso-roasted pork sandwich with chili and peach relish, pork rillettes, and “fancy Chex Mix.”
Oxbow Brewing co-founder Tim Adams is catching Dead & Company with John Mayer at Fenway Park this weekend, and he’s bringing along six kegs of Saison Rosé, a sour fermented with pinot noir grapes, and aged on estate cherries, strawberries, and raspberries, to Ramble on Rosé. Such beers can be unpredictable, “but the timing on this one just worked out perfectly that it was ready for release at the same time, so we thought we’d come down and celebrate the music of the Grateful Dead and funky mixed fermentation farmhouse ales.” Find Saison Rosé on draft at Row 34, Bukowski Tavern in Boston, and Brewer’s Fork this weekend, as well as at Oxbow’s taprooms in Portland and Newcastle, Maine. The beer should be pouring all weekend, but you will find the Oxbow team at Row 34 at 4 p.m. on Saturday, at Bukowski’s after the show that night, then at Brewer’s Fork at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
