Bin 26 Enoteca is the quintessential Italian wine bar—low lighting, hearty meat and cheese board, fat wine list. Locals stop in to sip Barolo with a bowl of pasta, and proprietors Babak Bina and Azita Bina-Seibel, who also own nearby Lala Rokh, already seem to know everyone in the room. Within weeks of opening, the spot has fast become a neighborhood favorite. Where Bin 26 diverges from its roots, ironically, is in the wine. The list includes not only Italian grapes but a wide selection of German rieslings, Spanish tempranillos, and South African chenin blancs. The mix makes Bin 26 an exciting destination both for connoisseurs, thrilled to uncover an unusual, full-bodied Vouvray, and for newbies, who want to know what a Vouvray is in the first place. But keep an eye on your tab: Many 100-milliliter tastings, about half a regular glass, run between $3.50 and $28, and many aren’t worth the price. Our advice? Order one of the more fairly priced bottles, sit back, and enjoy.
