Profile
Famous for sporting a Red Sox hat instead of a toque, Gordon Hamersley has a reputation for quality service as well as nationally renowned (and delicious) food. His eponymous bistro has been around since before the South End’s dining scene was chic, and still serves up the same comfort fare to a classy, if staid, clientele. Most nights the chef cruises the dining room to greet guests as they feast on his oft- (but deservedly) hyped roast chicken, hearty cassoulet filled with homemade sausages, and rich duck confit. A more casual neighborhood crowd gathers at the bar and adjoining café, which offer lighter fare and cozy seating.
Hamersley's in now offering Sunday brunch from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

I have dined at Hamersleys several times in the past two years. As a New Yorker, I am somewhat of a snob concerning "out of town"
restaurants.Hamersleys has shown me the error of my ways. The menu is always appealing, the food is excellent and the friendly, unobtrusive staff adds to the pleasure of the entire meal. I have been further impressed by seeing GH at
the door to say thank you to his patrons. Never
heard of Mario doing that! Well done Hamersleys,I look forward to my next visit.

Went in party of 4.
1. Chicken with garlic was inedible. Too much garlic. Waiter appeared to not notice that the diner stopped eating after ten minutes.
2. I had lamb, nothing special. Came with 2 half pieces of asparagus and a tablespoon of rice for $37.
3. Pork was OK, but dry.
4. Halibut was chunks of fish mixed with prawns with heads on. It reminded me of the scene in Apocalyse Now when Martin Sheen gets told "If you eat one of these you won't ever have to prove your manhood."
Lemon custard dessert nothing special.
Best food was the mixed green salad with goat cheese, and bread.
Dining room crowded, noisy on Thursday night. Waiter could not describe one of the beers, nor did he warn of the very garlicky chicken, a supposed "signature dish".

My partner and I have enjoyed this restaurnat for the last 12 years and have gone there for many special occassions. However recently we had a pretty disappointed by the food and attitude. I ordered a chicken dish and it was coated in Cajun spices. When I asked why they were serving Cajun food in a French Provincial restaurant, I was dismissed with a comment that contemporary French chefs use spices from many different cultures... But the truth is, if I want Cajun I will go to a Cajun restaurant.

Comfortable, beautiful dining room- professional, charming staff- amazing, delicious food- It shouldn't exist in one restaurant but it does at Hamersley's. You WILL be transformed by the legendary roasted chicken.
