Memories of an Italian grandmother’s cooking are tough to beat, but Saluté, in Roslindale Village, is a worthy opponent. Classics such as fried tortelloni, fried calamari, and pork with veal ragu compete for attention with newer generations of Italian fare: beet and ricotta over arugula, Cornish game hen and polenta, wood-grilled pizza with sausage, peppers, and piles of creamy goat cheese. But nothing outshines the three-meatball appetizer, which comes in a pool of red sauce second only to Nonna's.
