The South End sibling to see-and-be-seen bistro Stephanie's on Newbury, Stephi's exudes a relaxed, inviting air with its chocolate-and-cream décor, plush banquettes, and menu filled with upscale comfort classics. Portions are at times daunting ("slab" nicely describes many of the offerings), but don't mistake size as a tradeoff for lesser ingredients or technique. Standouts include the juicy double-cut pork chop and the must-order appetizer of hoisin-marinated pulled chicken. Prices are a bit lower here than on Newbury, making Stephi's a good value—especially if you don't want cooking that will set the world on fire, so much as food that warms the soul.
