Simply prepared New England comfort food that’s heavy on flavor. The menu is built on lamb, chicken, aged sirloin steak, and a few seafood dishes, either wood-grilled, prepared in a brick oven, or roasted on rotisseries.

I just had one of the worst dining experiences of my life. The entire staff was argumentative from the start. The waitress argued with me about a request I had for food and drink. The owner spent the entire time at a table next to us standing and speaking loudly making the brunch uncomfortable at best. I would never go there again, and would recommend this only to people going on a "break-up" date.

it will shimmer like a jewel any other day. Having resided in more cities than the average person visits, my last encounter with Christmas dinner was in Portland, Oregon. Although the restaurant was solely owned, it was adjacent to a downtown hotel whose many patrons were displaced flight attendants and business people seeking to salvage the holiday. The wait with reservations was over an hour, the menu was limited and the food was cold. Not so at the Fireplace. Everything was perfect from the steaming butternut squash bisque to the best filet mignon I’ve had the pleasure of tasting. Chef Jim Solomon was highly attentive and Lauren, our waitperson, achieved the precarious balancing act of delivering our orders in a timely manner without pestering us. I highly recommend this eatery and look forward to returning. This was hands-down the best restaurant I’ve found since Monterey, California.
