Hot on the heels of Cambridge's southern-food craze (see: the always-packed Hungry Mother around the corner), Tupelo brings rib-sticking comfort food at wallet-friendly prices to Inman Square. Chef Rembs Layman, previously of Chez Henri and La Morra, turns out down-home classics such as half-roasted chicken with grits, beer-battered crêpes overflowing with spinach and mozzarella, and crispy fried catfish served with green tomatoes. Appetizers include fried oysters and succulent shrimp rémoulade, though desserts, courtesy of pastry chef Renee McLeod's other shop, Petsi Pies, may make you skip the savory and head straight to the sweet. Our favorites: pecan pie topped with Toscanini's ice cream, and a superlative banana pudding.
