Get This: Long Gloves

This month, splurge on some ladylike, up-to-there armwear.

By Courtney Cox

Once reserved for black-and-white screen sirens like Ava Gardner and Lana Turner, long gloves have emerged from the girdle-era vault as an easy way to glam up any contemporary ensemble. Available this season in quirky prints, rich leather, and plush fabrics, the Old Hollywood–inspired arm candy can be worn as an elegant complement to sleeveless evening attire or as an unexpected twist to downtown-by-day outfits. Brighten an of-the-moment, dark cropped jacket with a pair made of shiny patent leather or embellished cashmere, or add drama to an otherwise simple shift with some to-the-elbow action in luxe velvet or mod graphics. Then practice your wave. You’ll be posing for those demanding paparazzi in no time.

Pictured, clockwise from top left: Antipast striped knit gloves, $125, Matsu; Marc Jacobs cinnamon leather gloves, $172, Marc Jacobs; Neiman Marcus black patent leather gloves, $228, Neiman Marcus; Carolina Amato ruched velour opera gloves, $55, Saks Fifth Avenue.
