As one of Boston's most sought-after interior decorators for nearly a decade, Meichi Peng has become known for her eclectic take on projects both residential and commercial, including the Theater District's in-progress W residences. But upon meeting the 34-year-old Taiwan native—who moonlights as a designer of handstitched calfskin purses—you'll find that two other things quickly become clear. First, she's something of a workaholic. Second, the woman's got a serious weakness for accessories. "I've always loved collecting stuff," says Peng, whose South End workspace is packed to the ceiling with relics from years of world travel.

This month that "stuff" will get a proper showcase as Peng the designer debuts Peng the store, a 1,400-square-foot home boutique in the South End. "We like to go beyond what other people are doing," she says of the shop's museum-quality pieces from dealers around the globe. Eventually, she hopes to add her own line of home goods, especially linens. "I know how hard it is to find good bedding," says Peng, who lives in Waltham with her boyfriend, restaurateur Douglas Tran of Malden's All Seasons Table. Not that she has much time for rest these days. She adds, "We're the only ones on our street who still have the lights on at midnight."
