Anyone who’s ever stepped foot inside one of Bass Pro Shops’ 46 locations nationwide will understand why we find the name a touch misleading: These are less shops than they are Sportsman’s Meccas, Temples of Gear, Woodsman Disneylands. The retailer has a colossal inventory of equipment and clothing for just about every outdoor sport imaginable, from camping to snorkeling to archery (one of the country’s fastest-growing pastimes). There are attractions, too, like waterfalls and aquariums stocked with local fish and a logging-themed laser arcade. The midwestern chain’s first New England outpost opens this month as the anchor store for Foxboro’s Patriot Place, the megamall being developed beside Gillette Stadium, and measures in at a sprawling 140,000 square feet. That’s more than three football fields’ worth of shooting, hiking, and reeling diversion.

RedHead’s Carbon Fury arrows, $50 for 12, and Blackout fixed-blade broadheads, $25 for three, at Bass Pro Shops, Patriot Place, Foxboro, basspro.com.
