The Color of Money

This season’s winning investment: a statement handbag in a high-wattage hue.

By Rachel Baker

Leading fall’s palette shift toward the refreshingly bold, Dior’s Samourai 1947 limited-edition handbag collection was designed by John Galliano to mark the brand’s 60th birthday. Made of lambskin and goatskin, the boxy yet ladylike bag—one of the line’s five designs and 10 eye-popping colors—pays homage to the label’s founding decade, while the intricate leatherwork (inspired by traditional Japanese clothing) and serpentine tortoiseshell handles add an imaginative, modern twist. And here in Boston, there’s more to celebrate than Dior’s big 6-0: The house’s Copley outpost recently expanded threefold to stock clothing and a wider selection of accessories. —R.B.
