Boston Public School Teacher Gets a Stunning New Look

Meet Chaya Harris – a 5th grade teacher and soccer coach at the Mather School. If you’re not familiar with The Mather School, it’s the oldest public elementary school in North America, located in Dorchester. She’s been mentoring students in the classroom and on the field for over seven years.

Upon meeting Chaya for the first time it was immediately clear to us what makes her such a great teacher. Her quiet, yet confident demeanor mixed with her patient and cheerful attitude is the perfect equation for not only an outstanding teacher, but a mentor to her students.

We wanted to thank the oh-so-deserving educator (and natural beauty) for all her hard work and dedication, so we made after-school plans to treat her to an afternoon of pampering (complete with a head-to-toe makeover!)

The Process

To prepare for a day of pampering and the big photoshoot, Chaya hit the town and visited some of the city’s top beauty experts.

Stop 1: Teeth whitening at Smileboston Cosmetic & Implant Dentistry in Boston

Stop 2: Eyelash extensions by Camryn Shaw at Maxilash Boutique

The Shoot: Makeover Day

With their 225 lavish guest rooms and suites just steps from the South End, Back Bay, and Theater District, the luxurious Loews Hotel at 154 Berkeley Street set the stage for a refined day of beauty.

The morning started with a relaxing makeup session by Lisa Van Orden (owner of  Studio LAVO and beautician with MLR Artist Management and beGlammed) followed by hair styling by Bryant from Salon Eva Michelle.

Award-winning Makeup Artist and Esthetician, Lisa Van Ordern gave Chaya a fresh-faced glow with a delicate make-up application that played-up her natural features—giving her a great day-to-evening look, appropriate for the classroom or cocktails.

At the end of the day, Salon Eva Michelle’s Artistic Designer, Bryant Anthony tied the whole look together with a smooth, sleek cut that brought Chaya’s look to a new level just before our final reveal.

The Complete Package

Making waves with glamorous, movie star hair, Chaya curled up with an issue of Boston magazine in a ribbed turtleneck (the first of many looks from UNIQLO) and her own comfy jeans—the perfect early fall ensemble!

Look 1:

Totally our cup of tea: chunky, sleeveless knits make for a seamless transition from summer to fall (and can be layered over long sleeves and turtlenecks as the weather grows colder).

To lengthen and thicken Chaya’s natural eyelashes, Camryn Shaw from Maxilash Boutique applied a set of individual eyelash extensions. With a steady hand and an immaculate ability to pay close attention to detail, Chaya’s lashes looked full and fresh. The special lashes applied by Camryn are able to withstand mascara, showering, and even exercise allowing Chaya to enjoy these eyelashes for an additional 3 weeks after her makeover.

Look 2:

Ready to start the school year, Chaya paired a super-cute, oversized wide sleeve sweater and wine-colored leggings from UNIQLO.

After a teeth whitening with Prosthodontist Steven D. Spitz, DMD of Smileboston Cosmetic & Implant Dentistry in Boston, Chaya took a moment to flash her newly-restored white smile. After all, Smileboston’s favorite saying is “Confidence begins with a great smile.”

Fun fact: Dr. Spitz acts as the dentist to the Boston Red Sox as well as Zoo New England (yes, he even does animal teeth!) Interested in changing your smile too? Smileboston has locations in both Brookline and the South Shore.

Look 3:

Ooh la la! A pleated Crepe Tucked Skirt and delicate Crepe Short Sleeve T Blouse from UNIQLO called for bubbly at Precinct Kitchen + Bar, where Chaya kicked up her heels in her own perfectly pink pumps.

She may be the teacher, but we say this sophisticated look passes the test.

Look 4:

Stepping out, our elegant autumn beauty donned an orange Crepe Camisole and Merino Blend Ribbed Skirt from UNIQLO—so chic!
