Margaret Gammill and Grayson Holland’s romance was written in the stars. The couple knew each other in high school but didn’t become friends until the summer after their freshman year of college, when they were both working as counselors at a day camp in Sudbury. They passed their evenings in a nearby field, talking, stargazing, and eating ice cream from Dairy Joy, in Weston. Come fall, Margaret returned to the University of Pennsylvania, and Grayson to Amherst College, but the pair found a way to keep connected. “We stayed in touch via snail mail,” Grayson says. “Letter-writing was our primary method of communication at first.” Their friendship soon turned into more, and six years after that first summer, Grayson popped the question in the very same field—after making a stop at Dairy Joy for a soft-serve cone, of course.

When it came time to plan their wedding day, Margaret and Grayson fell in love with the grounds of the Lyman Estate. “Everything about it was so beautiful,” Margaret says. “It reminded me of the movie Sabrina, with Audrey Hepburn.” From there they set about creating a timeless garden-party-themed reception in shades of champagne, gold, silver, and blush—with one very personal touch. Those letters the couple sent to each other as undergrads? Strung on twine and draped around the reception, the envelopes were a tangible display of their love.

All of the bouquets included Queen Anne’s lace. “It always makes me think of summertime, long walks, and, of course, the field,” Margaret says.

Margaret hung her Reem Acra dress next to a paper replica created by her first-grade students. “It was a surprise gift for me,” she says. “They bedazzled it and put their names on it.”
