Wedding Venue Spotlight: Skywalk Observatory

Top of the Hub's 50th floor of the Prudential allows a bird's eye view for your big day

Top of the Hub, known for its upscale American fare, live jazz, and renowned 360-degree views of Boston, doesn’t have the open space necessary for a wedding party. Sigh. However, the restaurant owns and operates the Skywalk Observatory on the 50th floor of The Prudential Tower. Translation: It’s the same cuisine and event planners who can help you and your to-be create a really spectacular event. And the bottom line—nowhere else will you find the kind of sweeping backdrops that the Skywalk provides.

Larger weddings with a sit-down dinner, hovering around 300 guests, would use all four sides of the Skywalk, while most parties averaging around 150 guests call for two sides of about 5,000 square feet of space. A dance floor will be installed, of course, as well as any furniture you might see fit to create a wonderful lounge area for your guests to leisurely enjoy the city’s sights (yes, they can add couches and easy chairs).

With the skill of Top of the Hub’s chef at your fingertips, you can customize your full wedding package with whatever you need—bars, food displays, a four-course dinner, wedding cake, and more.

Appetizers for the reception can range from coconut chicken and spanakopita to risotto croquettes to California rolls, while guests at past receptions have enjoyed first courses of New England clam chowder, potato gnocchi marinara, and pan-seared crab cakes. Entrees might include tenderloin of beef with port wine and shallots; roasted lemon and herb free range chicken; and grilled swordfish with caper and lemon butter, to name a few specialties.

One clever menu they’ve done for gatherings is the “Neighborhoods of Boston.” Excellent for entertaining out of town guests, stations are set up on various parts of the Skywalk reflecting the cuisine of the neighborhood they overlook. Seafood facing the harbor, Italian facing the North End, authentic hot dogs overlooking Fenway Park, etc.

You also get the benefit of their award-winning Executive Pastry Chef, Tommy Choi, who is a master at creating specialized wedding cakes and other desserts. What’s your pleasure?

Regardless of the menu you choose, it all comes back to those views. They’re something you and your guests will never get your fill of.

Top of the Hub and Skywalk are both located at 800 Boylston Street in Boston.
