Sarah Lang & Kevin Riley

Food has always been an important part of Sarah Lang and Kevin Riley’s relationship. The pair met while working at the same Las Vegas restaurant. They got engaged over steamed lobsters, homemade chowder, and strawberry lemonade at a clambake in New Hampshire’s Odiorne Point State Park. And when it came time to plan their wedding at the Ritz-Carlton in Boston, they knew the menu would be central to the day. “As chefs, we’ve always been very fortunate to experience very upscale dining experiences and hospitality,” Kevin says. And that was just what the Ritz delivered, with hors d’oeuvres galore, a refined dinner menu, an overflowing dessert buffet, and plenty of late-night snacks.
The couple, who now live in Florida, found other creative ways to tie in their culinary backgrounds, too, including swapping out the traditional guest book for an engraved cutting board and dressing tiny eggs in personalized chef toques in lieu of escort cards. “That was one of Kevin’s ideas,” Sarah says. “In the midst of this traditional, classic wedding, I thought that really showed our personalities.”
Chicken brochettes (pictured), bacon-wrapped scallops, and lamb lollipops with cumin yogurt were among the gourmet goodies served at cocktail hour.
Guests left their well wishes for the culinary-minded couple on an engraved cutting board.
Cakes to Remember baked the elegant four-tier wedding cake.
The couple toasted friends and family during the reception. In honor of Sarah’s late parents, Kevin also created a memorial slide show of old family photos to the song “I Was Here,” by Beyoncé. “Kevin did such an amazing job,” Sarah says. “It was so special what he put together.”
A mix of high and low centerpieces added texture to the room.
The couple jumped the broom at the end of their ceremony at the Church of the Covenant, on Newbury Street. “I designed my own broom,” Sarah says. “One day, my children can either use it, or I will help them make their own.”
Kevin gifted Sarah her bridal shoes, shimmery Jimmy Choo sandals, for her birthday.
Sarah’s bridesmaids, in long gowns from David’s Bridal, danced the night away.
