Weather or Not

Wedding Weather

It was Mark Twain who famously said, “If you don’t like the weather in New England, just wait a few minutes.” Kathryn McManamy and Gardiner Parker knew they might see a few snowflakes fly during their late-fall wedding at the Hanover Inn, in the bride’s hometown of Hanover, New Hampshire. The morning of the big day, however, the sun was shining, and the air was warm enough for Gardiner and his groomsmen to play a game of football on the town green while the bride and her ’maids got their hair done. And then? Just in time for the pre-ceremony portraits, the flakes began to fall. “Obviously my face says it all,” says Kathryn, who grew up skiing. “I love the snow.” Excitement (and a borrowed fur coat) kept her warm in a strapless dress, even as the squalls turned into a full-on blizzard while the bridal party and guests dashed from the church to the reception. “It made the day feel special,” Kathryn says about the unexpected frosting. “It was very magical.”
