Boston Home Spring 2010: Covet: Proverb's Daren Bascome Craves a Cutting-Edge Chair

AS THE BRAINS behind Boston-based marketing agency Proverb, Daren Bascome, 40, crafts branding concepts for clients ranging from the MIT Media Lab to hip South End eatery Myers + Chang. The Bermuda native’s trademark style is all about distilling complex ideas into a clear and assertive message — a lot like the work of local designer (and Bascome’s friend) Adam Simha. “Because of the level of engineering and attention to detail, you wind up with the illusion of simplicity,” Bascome says of Simha’s furniture.

An avid traveler and music lover, Bascome imagines Simha’s powder-coated 7-12 Lounge ($2,880) in the living room of his South End brownstone, where he enjoys blending modern and historical aesthetics. “I think this chair is a contemporary cultural statement,” he says. “It’s elegant, accessible, optimistic, and imaginative.”
