“We’re putting together a serious designer market,” says Kimberly Benson, the entrepreneur and fashion enthusiast who founded the forthcoming Independent Designer’s Market in the South End. Every Saturday beginning September 18, the spacious lobby at the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology will serve as a forum for local artisans selling everything from one-of-a-kind jewelry, clothing, and furniture to fine-art photography. But IDM won’t have the catchall quality that sometimes colors similar shopping experiences. Benson, after all, will select all the artists. “It’s going to be an upscale place,” she says, “not a flea market.”
