FOR A WORLDLY COUPLE, Kirsten and Dennis got married surprisingly close to home. They met during a trip to Newport and started dating in New York City just before Dennis relocated to Amsterdam for work; the relationship remained long distance until the pair moved to Spain. But when considering a location for their wedding, New England was a no-brainer.

Kirsten, a Connecticut native, grew up spending summers in Cotuit, and Dennis, who is Dutch, had grown fond of the seaside town. “The Cape will always be a part of our lives, no matter what country we live in,” says Kirsten. During a post-reception dance party at a family beach house, guests from Holland, Spain, Brazil, Australia, and other locations celebrated together until the wee hours — in spite of long flights and jet lag.

Dennis and Kirsten’s 10 nieces and nephews were flower girls and ring bearers. The girls were meant to hand out gerbera daises as they walked down the aisle, but ended up being too shy to approach guests.

Kirsten’s grandmother gave her this hair clip when she was a little girl; she always knew she would wear it on her wedding day.

The bride’s one-of-a-kind gown was created from three different dresses.

Kirsten and her bridesmaids tied all the tiny knots on each place card; her mom hand-dyed the rope.

Heineken was the featured beverage at the reception, since Dennis works for the Dutch beer company.

A “tying the knot” theme reflected the couple’s love of sailing. Knots adorned everything from the cake to the table numbers.
