ROBERT AUSTIN GONZALEZ gives old trees new life. Inspired by Moroccan woodturning techniques, the Brooklyn-based designer uses naturally fallen trees to create tables with legs that resemble chess pieces. For his Grace collection, he looks for wood with character – wormholes, color variation, and grain splits – or what some might call imperfections. It takes him at least two months to craft each piece, and every table is unique. $5,300-$13,600, available through Evolve Residential.
