Real New England Weddings: Kirsten Dangremond & Hans Jensen
Kirsten Dangremond and Hans Jensen believe in serendipity. Though she’s from Rhode Island and he’s from Oregon, they happened to meet in Washington, DC, of all places, in 2000, when they struck up a conversation in front of the National Air and Space Museum. That unlikely encounter blossomed into a relationship. “We talked online and stayed in touch,” says Kirsten, “and then he visited me in 2007 and basically never left.” Ten years after their happenstance crossing of paths, Hans proposed under a crab-apple tree at Kirsten’s family home on the Barrington waterfront.
The pair chose a garden setting for the wedding. Every aspect incorporated details that were special to the couple, from the drinks (the signature cocktail was a Kir Royale, Kirsten’s favorite sipper; it’s also Hans’ nickname for her) to the celebration itself — they wrote the entire ceremony, including their vows, and Kirsten’s uncle acted as the officiant. “The whole event was so vivid because of the colors and the atmosphere,” explains Hans. “It was so warm and inviting…it felt like home.” Kirsten agrees: “Our goal for the whole experience was to make it as personal as possible,” she says. “No one could mistake it for anybody else’s wedding.”
The wedding took place inside the botanical garden’s glass conservatory.
The bridesmaid necklaces were custom-made by Dugan Jewelers in Providence.
The rustic theme was reflected in all of the details, from the burlap that covered the tent poles to the thistle boutonniere sported by the groom.

Instead of a traditional wedding cake, Kirsten and Hans opted for strawberry shortcake.
Kirsten’s German shorthaired pointer, Kaiya, was an enthusiastic participant. “She got in every single picture,” says the bride.
