Real New England Weddings: Heather Fry & Allan Konar

Before Heather Fry and Allan Konar met for their first date at Grendel’s Den in Harvard Square, Allan had assumed the evening would be brief. “[I thought] we’d have half an hour of drinks, talk, call it a night, and I’d be home in time to watch Battlestar Galactica,” he says. Instead, the pair ended up walking around the neighborhood for four hours, just talking. “At that point, I knew that this was a potential for something serious. I think it was on the third date I told her I was going to marry her,” Allan says, to which Heather replied: “Slow your roll!”

Heather came around, of course, and just over a year after that first date the two were engaged. For their wedding, Heather and Allan chose the MIT Endicott House in Dedham — a venue they fell for after taking a cooking class together there. Inspired by the estate’s history, the couple planned a ’30s-themed celebration complete with old-school bow ties and newsboy caps for Allan’s four groomsmen, who ended up playing a big role in the ceremony.

“There were a bunch of rose petals that the florist had brought, and one of the groomsmen had the idea for them to stuff their pockets with them,” Heather remembers. “After we did our vows and our kiss, there was a shower of rose petals coming down on us. I felt showered with love. It was an amazing moment.”

Heather and Allan took lessons at Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Belmont to prep for the dance floor.

One of Heather’s favorite wedding moments was when she sang a duet with her mother — something the two often did when the bride was younger.

Charlotte Design Flower Boutique in Walpole created the bouquets, which starred calla lilies in fall hues.

In lieu of a cake, the couple offered guests a variety of flavored cupcakes made by baker Lisa Sinclair, a close friend.

Allan’s groomsmen wore mismatched bow ties purchased at Keezer’s in Central Square as well as various secondhand stores.
