Arlington High School Goes All 'Footloose,' Bans School Dances

Arlington High School Goes All Footloose, Bans School Dances. Taking a page straight out of Reverend Shaw Moore’s handbook, school officials decided to institute the ban on school-sponsored dances … in Massachusetts … in 2011 … after a number of teenagers continuously showed up tanked and ready to grind it out to Beyoncé. Arlington students, if you want your dances back, you’d better brush up on the Kevin Bacon angry dance as a first step.

If nothing else, this story is of interest because of the Globe‘s attempt — and resulting failure — to objectively define “grinding” as when “students are in close physical contact.” [Boston Globe]
