There’s something you’ve been dreaming about for a long, long time, but have never truly acknowledged it. And folks, it’s time to recognize that dream: a local event to celebrate the profound cultural contributions of cats.
Cat enthusiasts, feel free to embrace Somerville as your new favorite city because this Sunday, February 17, is the Somerville Copy Cat Festival at Arts at the Armory.
Let’s face it: oftentimes your laptop is your only companion while you’re spending many a night scouring the Internet for genius cat memes and cat videos. (But have you experienced this?) The Somerville Cats Council (a real thing) is here to tell you that you’re not alone. The extravaganza, modeled after the Internet Cat Video Festival held in Minneapolis last year, will be a furry celebration of fabulous felines. Showings of cat videos (produced locally and globally), slideshows of local cats, cat-themed crafts, and even a costume table so that you can pretend you’re a cat will all be highlights of the event. Are you sick of the word cat yet? No? All right, good. Emcee Jef Czekaj will cat kick off the cat event by cat reading his book Cat Secrets. Cat.
While tickets to the 4 p.m. show are sold out, due to high demand another show has been added at 12 p.m. Tickets, which are $5, can be purchased here.
And now, a little something to get you in the mood for Sunday. And perhaps Valentine’s Day too, with your cat.
