Five Reasons to Leave the House This Weekend

What do Tracy Morgan and the Kings of Leon have in common with wedding showcases? They're all events happening in Boston this weekend.

Concert
Kings of Leon

Southern alternative rock, blues, and a whole lot of sexy hit the stage this weekend for Kings of Leon’s first tour since 2011. Formed in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1999, the band finally hit it big in 2008 with their hits “Sex on Fire” and “Use Somebody.” By 2011, the fame had gotten to them and the group temporarily broke up. The band is back together now and tighter than ever with their new album, “Mechanical Bull.” Expect great ballads and the dirty rock we all came to love in 2008.

$43+, Friday, February 28, 8 p.m., TD Garden, 100 Legends Way, Boston, 617-624-1050, ticketmaster.com.

Movies
AMC Loews Best Picture Showcase

If you’re anything like us, you’re scrambling to watch all of the movies before the Academy Awards this Sunday. Eat popcorn and candy all day as you watch Nebraska, Captain Phillips, Her, American Hustle, and Gravity. Alfonso Cuarón, director of Gravity, is predicted to win Best Director after he won the Directors Guild of America honors for his landmark efforts on the film. And be sure to keep an eye out when watching American Hustle; the film was shot in locations in and around Boston.

$40, Saturday, March 1, 12 p.m., AMC Loews Boston Common 19, 175 Tremont St., Boston, 617-423-5801, amctheatres.com.

Comedy
Tracy Morgan

Never afraid to speak out, the former 30 Rock comedian hits the Wilbur for two back-to-back shows this weekend. A little controversial, a little sassy, but mostly a lot of funny, Tracy Morgan is never afraid to say what’s on his mind. In a recent interview we had with the comedian, Morgan shared his thoughts on why people are so easily offended and/or surprised when they see him on stage. For 30 Rock fans who want to see Tracy Jordan, think again. Morgan said, “When they pay to come see me, they know what they’re coming to see. Some people think they are coming to see 30 Rock. But they’re not.”

$45+, Saturday, March 1, 7 and 9:45 p.m., Wilbur Theater, 246 Tremont St., Boston, 617-248-9700, thewilbur.com.

Theater
“Death of a Salesman”

Arthur Miller’s story of a man in economic straits isn’t likely to date anytime soon. The play is recognized as an American milestone in theater for its portrait of the everyman chasing the American dream. “Death of a Salesman” paints a portrait of family life in America that will always be unsettling. The Globe praised this rendition’s actors for superb performances and The Lyric for holding simple and sincere to the end.

Prices vary, February 28-March 16, various times, The Lyric Stage, 140 Clarendon St., Boston, 617-585-5678, lyricstage.com
