Actress/writer/comedienne/queen and Cambridge native Mindy Kaling will be at Holmes Field this afternoon to speak at Harvard Law School’s 2014 Class Day. Kaling will present alongside Preet Bharara, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

Kaling, known for playing Dunder Mifflin’s melodramatic customer service rep Kelly Kapoor on NBC’s The Office, just completed her second season as the creator, producer, and star of her own TV comedy, The Mindy Project, on FOX. She’s also the author of a witty memoir titled Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns).

Kaling herself graduated from Dartmouth College in 2001, after which she co-wrote and starred in the play “Matt & Ben” (yes, based on that Matt and Ben), which went on to make Time magazine’s “Top Ten Theatrical Events of the Year” in 2003. She joined The Office in 2004 as a staff writer and by season eight was an executive producer.

Harvard, being Harvard, is known for its household-named undergraduate commencement speakers (Amy Poehler, Will Ferrell, and Matt Lauer are among the many), but Kaling is one of the first celebrity names to take on Harvard Law. Author and legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin led Harvard Law’s Class Day last year, and U.S. Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. was selected in 2012.

Harvard Law School’s 2014 Class Day will be held at Holmes Field Wednesday afternoon. A live webcast will begin at the start of the ceremony at 2:30 p.m.
