Heartbeat: A Modern Dance Rock Concert

The celebration of life, love, music, and dance returns to the Oberon for its third Cambridge run. Produced by the George Woods Band and Jennifer Crowell-Kuhnberg, the live show fills the Oberon’s 360-degree nightclub theater with a dramatic love story. There are four shows scheduled in total, the first starting this weekend, and each one is followed by a funk-filled dance party.

An Evening with Champions

Founded in 1970, this star-studded event has raised more than $2.6 million for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund. This year, the lineup of internationally known skaters includes Johnny Weir, Kimmie Meissner, Jeremy Abbott, and more. Local favorite Marissa Castelli will perform with her new pairs partner Mervin Tran.

Magic Without Tricks

As part of Nave Gallery’s current exhibit, “Magic Without Tricks,” the gallery will host a special event on Saturday called “Readings About Magic.” The reading will be inspired by the literary works that inspired artworks in the exhibit, including Japanese fairy tales, Jorge Luis Borges, Sylvia Plath, and Houdini.

New England Pet Expo

Cuuuuute!!!” Yeah, you’ll hear a lot of that this weekend at the 2014 pet expo, where pet owners can bring their furry friends to check out and participate in agility demos, talent contests, costume contests, and much more. The 120 exhibitors will also keep you busy at this event.

Newton Jazz and Wine Festival

This weekend, celebrate Ella Fitzgerald with the Newton Jazz and Wine Festival. On Friday, award-winning vocalist Patrice Williamson will perform her tribute with guests Cassandra Pearl, Lydia Harrell, Dale LePage, and Dominique Eade. Then on Saturday, grab your picnic baskets and head over to Jackson Homestead for Jazz-in-the-Yard, an afternoon of free outdoor jazz performances.
