The Boston Music Awards announced the nominees for their 2014 awards this past weekend at a free concert at the Lawn on D called “The Sound of Our Town” concert, curated by music blog Vanyaland and starring local duo Aimee Mann and Ted Leo, known as The Both.

Winners of the Boston Music Awards, which take place in December, are selected by the academy and online public voting. The academy’s votes count for two-thirds while public voting counts for one-third. Attendees who voted at Sound of Our Town would be counted as two-thirds for that day as well.

This year’s nominees represent a range of genres and include local acts that have gone on to tour and perform all around the country. The Both was nominated in the category of Best Boston Artist That Doesn’t Live in Boston, and Vanyaland was nominated for Best Music Blog.
