Before Illuminus—Boston’s first Nuit Blanche—takes over the South End later this month, the team will host three nights of fun activities this weekend at Lawn on D.

Dubbed “Illuminus D,” the three evenings will offer a glimpse at what’s to come later this month during the full-scale festival at SoWa:

On Thursday, join hands-on workshops and tutorials to learn all about 3D projection mapping and other tech that Illuminus uses to splash their work on entire building facades. 6:30-10 p.m.

On Friday, in addition to more presentations on the methods behind 3D mapping, visitors will actually see examples of 3D light projection come to life on the walls of the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center and around Lawn on D. A DJ will play music throughout the evening, which will conclude with a collaborative music and 3D light projection performance by artist Sam “Samo” Okerstrom-Lang and performer BLKBX. Bonus: The Taco Truck will be there. 6:30-10 p.m.

Finally, on Saturday, bring the kids for an interactive kids’ workshop led by New England Conservatory percussionist Maria Finkelmeier. Her music will be used in another 3D projection performance by Samo. Bonus: Latin dance troop MetaMovements will be teaching “Salsa in the Park.” 5-10 p.m.

Illuminus D takes place Thursday through Saturday nights, October 9, 10, and 11, at Lawn on D, 420 D Street. Visit Illuminus Boston on Facebook for details.

The full-scale Illuminus festival takes place Saturday, October 25, throughout SoWa in the South End. Learn more.
