A Cappella Groups to Sing Off for Collegiate Championship
Last year, Berklee’s a cappella team Pitch Slapped won the ICCA championship.
In case you weren’t aware, Boston is aca-awesome—so much so that last year, Berklee College of Music’s coed a cappella group Pitch Slapped won the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella.
This year, teams from local colleges are ready to battle again for the title, starting out with a set of five quarterfinals this month ahead of the Northeast semifinals in March. Three of these quarterfinals will take place in Boston at Berklee, BU, and MIT, with local teams representing even more schools.
This weekend alone, teams from Berklee, Harvard College, UMass Amherst, and Northeastern will compete with others at Berklee Performance Center. Teams from Emerson and BU join the competition the following week, and at the end of the month, Suffolk, Simmons, and MIT will compete in quarterfinals as well.
The top two teams from each will move on to the semifinals at Symphony Hall at the end of March.
Their end game is the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella finals in New York, where the semifinal champion from each region will sing their hearts out for the top title.
But until then, whether you’re a proud alum or an avid a cappella fan who quotes Pitch Perfect on a regular basis, you can cheer for local teams at any of these upcoming quarterfinals:
