This is it, universe. It appears that the runway has reached peak Gisele Bündchen. After twenty years of blessing humanity with her grace and everlasting chiseled cheekbones, Bündchen has officially retired from the runway. The supermodel walked her last show on Tuesday night for Colcci at São Paulo’s 2015 Fashion Week.
In an Instagram posted just before the Colcci show, she wrote:
I am grateful that at 14, I was given the opportunity to start this journey. Today after 20 years in the industry, it is a privilege to be doing my last fashion show by choice and yet still be working in other facets of the business.
“Automatically my body tells me if what I do is worth it, and it asked to stop,” she also said in an interview with Folha de São Paulo newspaper on Saturday. “I respect my body. It’s a privilege to be able to stop.”
Bündchen’s better half Tom Brady, who sat front row on Tuesday night, wrote a letter to her on Facebook:
From March 16, 2015:
A report from Brazilian newspaper Moda Estadão claims that Gisele Bündchen is retiring from the runway after 20 years of service as a high-fashion underwear model extraordinaire. She’ll reportedly walk down her final catwalk in the São Paulo Fashion Week this April at the Colcci show, a Brazilian fashion label she’s had a long-time relationship with.
While Bundchen said it’s her dream to finish walking the runway in Brazil, her alleged retirement will probably be just as erroneous as every other time a celebrity claimed to retire.
Never forget Shia LaBeouf who bravely pioneered an everlasting retirement from public life:
In light of the recent attacks against my artistic integrity, I am retiring from all public life.
— Shia LaBeouf (@thecampaignbook) January 10, 2014
I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE — Shia LaBeouf (@thecampaignbook) January 13, 2014
And also Justin Bieber’s record-breaking 40-minute retirement:
The media talks a lot about me.They make a up a lot of lies and want me to fail but I’m never leaving you, being a belieber is a lifestyle.
— Justin Bieber (@justinbieber) December 25, 2013
E! Online clarifies that Bundchen is strictly giving up runway modeling, not campaigns or fashion spreads. She has been, after all, the highest-paid supermodel in the world for eight straight years, and that’s something neither she nor anyone else can ignore. In other words, this is basically the most non-retirement of all retirements.
