Hours before runners were lacing up their sneakers to begin the 2015 Boston Marathon, the Boylston St. finish line played host to the last leg of a different race: the 2015 Boston Midnight Marathon Bike Ride. While the morning’s runners and spectators enjoyed their last sleep before the race, hundreds of bikers followed the route of Monday’s marathon, with many leaving Hopkinton at midnight and crossing the finish line around 2 a.m.

Boston Police guarding the finish line said they were told to expect around 900 bikers, but Greg Hum, the race’s founder, said last week that he was expecting 500-600 based on last year’s numbers. From 1:30 a.m. onward, cyclists of all ages (we spotted at least one teen) crossed the famous finish line, posing for pictures and chatting about the race route. Afterward, a trip to Washingston St.; Boston Common Coffee Company hosted a charity pancake breakfast, where baristas expected to host 240-250 hungry athletes.
